Tuesday, December 4, 2018. 10 am - 4 pm at the Saskatoon Inn. APAS is encouraging producers to attend this session, either in person or via telephone (1-877-413-4790 using conference ID 6516347).
The session is being hosted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
"In November 2016, the Grains Roundtable initiated an industry-led stakeholder engagement process to discuss the implementation of a new funding mechanism for public and private breeding programs in Canada, particularly in cereal crops. Implementation of a new, sustainable funding model could attract additional investment in cereals research and development. This would ultimately support greater profitability and competitiveness in Canada’s cereals sector. An improved funding mechanism could similarly be applied to other crop kinds such as pulses, flax, etc., to support greater levels of investment and innovation. This CFIA/AAFC session will build on this process to enable broader engagement and to advance these discussions.
The purpose of these sessions is to obtain your views on the two funding models for cereals that were presented to the Grains Roundtable at its November 2017 meeting – which then supported a broader consultation on the two models (briefly described in the annex which follows) – and to get your perspectives on how these models could be implemented. A summary of what we heard from stakeholders will be prepared and made available at the end of the engagement period."
