REGINA, SK – The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan (APAS) congratulates Prime Minister Mark Carney and members of the newly announced federal Cabinet as they embark on their mandate to strengthen the Canadian economy. APAS is particularly pleased to welcome the Honourable Heath MacDonald as Canada’s new Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and is eager to work collaboratively on advancing policies that support Saskatchewan producers and enhance the national agricultural sector.

The new Cabinet has been tasked with delivering change across key areas, including defining a renewed economic relationship with the United States and catalyzing investments in a stronger, more resilient Canadian economy.

APAS recognizes the Cabinet’s inclusion of pivotal portfolios tied to Canada’s trade and international partnerships, such as the Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade (Dominic LeBlanc) and the Minister of International Trade (Maninder Sidhu). Agriculture hinges on robust trade relationships and infrastructure, and APAS is optimistic that these critical links will feature prominently in the government’s efforts to support export-driven sectors like agriculture.

“In Saskatchewan, agriculture represents not only a cornerstone of the provincial economy but also an essential contributor to Canada’s economic strength,” notes APAS President Bill Prybylski. “APAS has long advocated for investments to enhance trade infrastructure, improve market access, and ensure producers can compete globally and we can’t wait to engage Minister MacDonald and his colleagues to prioritize these needs, to deliver a strong and united Canadian economy.”

"The appointment of Heath MacDonald as Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food offers an exciting opportunity for renewed focus and action on the critical issues facing Saskatchewan farmers today,” emphasized Prybylski. “This marks a pivotal moment to innovate and drive growth in agriculture and ensure producers have the tools, policies, and infrastructure they need to succeed."

APAS is dedicated to advocating on behalf of Saskatchewan's producers and is poised to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration, aiming to build a prosperous and inclusive path forward for Saskatchewan’s agricultural sector.
