FARMERS AND FOOD PRICES REPORT 2024
- Farmers are getting less while consumers are paying more
- Fluctuations in commodity prices don't seem to predict or
drive pricing at the grocery store
- Food inflation is a complex issue and demands more transparency
across the supply chain to establish who is profiting at the expense
of producers and consumers
THE DATA
This year's report shows retail prices for seven common grocery products rose in Saskatchewan over the last year, despite falling commodity prices and farmers' declining share of those same retail dollars. A few of those examples include pork, beer and margarine.
