Resolution Title: Livestock Trucking Shortages
Year: 2015
Resolution #: L4-2015AGM
Resolution:

WHEREAS Saskatchewan cattle producers face few marketing options for their cattle as all processing facilities and many feedlots are located outside our borders;

WHEREAS the lengthy hauls, combined with the seasonal nature of cattle sales, have resulted in a reduced access to trucking services capable of transporting our cattle to market in an efficient and timely fashion;

WHEREAS this shortage of transportation services imposes additional costs on Saskatchewan producers and further undermines the competitiveness of the livestock industry in our province;

BE IT RESOLVED that APAS lobby the provincial government to work with the trucking industry to develop any necessary recruitment and incentive programs to expand the livestock trucking industry in Saskatchewan and improve producers’ access to efficient transportation services.
