Resolution: | WHEREAS the number of cattle producers continue to decline regardless of record prices for cattle; WHEREAS Crown lease land is an excellent way for new farmers to become involved in the livestock industry; WHEREAS Crown Land leases often comprise a significant amount of a cattle producer's land base; WHEREAS there has been no consultation with Crown Land lease holders, with conservation or wildlife groups, or with other stakeholders, prior to the introduction of penalties and incentives as a means of encouraging the sale of Crown lands; WHEREAS the system of financial incentives and penalties is coercive; BE IT RESOLVED that APAS lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to suspend the new (2015) Agricultural Crown Land sales program until there is sincere and meaningful consultation with all stakeholders |
