Resolution: | WHEREAS labour shortages are becoming more severe in Saskatchewan agriculture as domestic sources of labour are unable to replace an aging workforce, WHEREAS despite recent changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, grains, oilseeds, pulses, and cattle continue to be ineligible commodities under the Agricultural stream of the program; WHEREAS immigration is a federal responsibility and promotion is often conducted at the consular level with inconsistent results; BE IT RESOLVED that grains and livestock be included as eligible commodities for the agricultural stream of the temporary foreign worker program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that APAS support the creation of a single office within the federal government dedicated to processing agricultural immigration applications and coordinating the promotion of Canadian agriculture as a source of employment for new immigrants. |
