Resolution Title: Wildlife Damage Compensation

Resolution:

WHEREAS The Wildlife Damage Compensation Program Regulations, under The Farm Financial Stability Act sets out the parameters for compensation payable to producers whose production is damaged by wildlife; and

WHEREAS Under section 6 of the Regulations, “A producer is eligible for compensation in accordance with these regulations for losses to commercial agricultural products resulting from damage caused by wildlife”; and

WHEREAS The Saskatchewan Wildlife Damage Prevention Program is primarily geared towards preventing feed supplies and direct crop damage caused by wildlife; and

WHEREAS Although authorized under the legislation, coverage for secondary damage, such as where wildlife damages a fence, resulting in cattle at large having access and causing crop damage, is not currently considered eligible;

BE IT RESOLVED That Saskatchewan Crop Insurance be asked to allow wildlife damage compensation to apply when wildlife have been deemed to indirectly cause crop loss.
