Resolution

WHEREAS Saskatchewan’s biofuel requirement currently is 2% for diesel; 

WHEREAS Consumption of canola-based biodiesel resulting from federal and provincial mandates was 211 million litres in 2017 requiring 443,000 tonnes of seed; 

WHEREAS Environment Canada’s Clean Fuel Standard final regulations are scheduled to be published in 2020; 

WHEREAS Increasing the biofuel national mandate to 5% would drive canola demand to 1.3 million tonnes annually; 

BE IT RESOLVED That Saskatchewan increase the biofuel standard to 5%; that Canada include a 5% biofuel mandate in Canada’s Clean Fuel Standard.
