Resolution Title: Management of Protected Lands
Year: 2019
Resolution #: L&E9-2019
Resolution:

WHEREAS Lands managed for wildlife habitat often have a build-up of trees, underbrush, and dead material that decreases the land’s overall ecological health and increases the susceptibility of fire;

WHEREAS The move to continuous cropping has resulted in fires spreading more quickly and farther before being extinguished;

WHEREAS Unmanaged lands may result in natural waterflows being impeded resulting in surrounding lands being flooded;

WHEREAS Increased buildup of underbrush and tall grass increases the habitat for ticks and the resulting disease risks;

WHEREAS The lack of grazing management on protected lands may result in the establishment of invasive/noxious weeds spreading to adjacent lands;

BE IT RESOLVED That APAS advocate for the active management of protected lands to reduce the risk of fire, flood, invasive weeds, and disease.
