Resolution: | WHEREAS Energy sources such as coal and fuel oil are cost prohibitive and have higher carbon emissions; WHEREAS Natural gas is an effective energy backstop during low on-farm production periods for solar and wind power; WHEREAS Climate variability has resulted in increased demand for on-farm propane and natural gas to dry harvested grains; WHEREAS The current rural natural gas infrastructure is inadequate to meet the needs of current agricultural operations resulting in installation of new or larger natural gas services for many agricultural producers being cost prohibitive; BE IT RESOLVED That the province of Saskatchewan develop a subsidized rural natural gas infrastructure program with expanded capacity to handle grain dryers and other agricultural uses. |
