WHEREAS the Canadian Wheat Board is not longer in place to source export grain and coordinate rail shipments and vessel loading;

WHEREAS the current backlog of grain in Western Canada has demonstrated the limitations of the system to market grain in a timely manner;

WHEREAS the grain backlog has contributed to dramatic reductions in grain prices;

WHEREAS dozens of ships are currently waiting for grain at West Coast ports, resulting in large demurrage charges that will be downloaded to producers;

BE IT RESOLVED that APAS urge the federal government to establish a logistics corporation to source grain by grade and protein to facilitate grain movement to ports and reduce wait time for vessels.
