Resolution Title: | Carbon Sinks |
Year: | 2017 |
Resolution #: | L&E5-2017AGM |
Resolution: | WHEREAS, researchers estimate that increasing the amount of soil organic carbon in agricultural soils by four parts per thousand worldwide would counter the annual increase in carbon in the atmosphere; WHEREAS, recent developments in agricultural practices and crop rotations may have resulted in significantly larger carbon sequestration than was previously calculated; BE IT RESOLVED that APAS lobby the Federal and Provincial Governments to increase research on quantifying the impact of increasing carbon inputs on our measurement of carbon sinks; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Canadian Government work with the signatories of the Paris Agreement to accurately measure and recognize agricultural carbon sinks. |
