Resolution Title: Canadian Grain Commission Mandate
Year: 2019
Resolution #: C&T5-2019
Resolution:

WHEREAS The Canada Grain Act states that the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) mandate is to carry out regulations and work in the interest of grain producers;

WHEREAS The Canada Grain Act is scheduled for review and there are expressed interests in eliminating the reference to grain producers in the legislated mandate;

WHEREAS The CGC was created to protect the commercial interests of producers in areas of weights and grades, payment protection, access to transportation, and dispute resolution;

WHEREAS Eliminating the explicit reference to producers in the mandate would diminish the important role the CGC continues to play in these key areas;

BE IT RESOLVED That APAS advocate to ensure the updated Canada Grain Act clearly states the CGC mandate is to work in the interest of grain producers.
