Resolution: | WHEREAS Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a technical working group on pesticides was looking to harmonize pesticide maximum residue limits and licencing and approval processes; WHEREAS Harmonization of approvals and reviews as well as maximum residue levels would reduce red tape and provide producers with greater and more timely access to agricultural products; WHEREAS The Canada United States Mexico Agreement on trade (CUSMA), once approved, would allow for harmonization undertakings to proceed; BE IT RESOLVED That the Government of Canada initiate discussions under the Canada United States Mexico Agreement on trade (CUSMA) on a harmonized registration system for active ingredients in crop and animal protection products. |
