Year: 2019
Resolution #: C&T7-2019
Resolution:

WHEREAS Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a technical working group on pesticides was looking to harmonize pesticide maximum residue limits and licencing and approval processes;

WHEREAS Harmonization of approvals and reviews as well as maximum residue levels would reduce red tape and provide producers with greater and more timely access to agricultural products;

WHEREAS The Canada United States Mexico Agreement on trade (CUSMA), once approved, would allow for harmonization undertakings to proceed;

BE IT RESOLVED That the Government of Canada initiate discussions under the Canada United States Mexico Agreement on trade (CUSMA) on a harmonized registration system for active ingredients in crop and animal protection products.
