Resolution Title: Falling Number as Grading Factor
Year: 2019
Resolution #: C&T17-2019
Resolution:

WHEREAS Grain buyers are using testing results, such as falling number, in addition to visual grade to assess quality;

WHEREAS The falling number is a preferred test for end-use customers that is closely related to the visual sprouting grading factor;

WHEREAS The use of falling number in addition to visual grades at primary elevators can result in grain being downgraded twice for the same quality factor;

BE IT RESOLVED That the CGC add falling number to the grading factors for the 2020 crop year, and begin an immediate review of sprouting and other visual grading factors to ensure that quality specifications used at primary elevators are consistent with those required by end-use customers.
