Resolution Title: Criminal Trespass

Resolution:

WHEREAS Saskatchewan Livestock producers follow high standards of care including biosecurity protocols designed to protect animals from disease transmission; 

WHEREAS Individuals entering farms or barns, handling animals or moving between barns without following proper biosecurity protocols, place the health of animals, safety of the food supply and the livelihood of farmers at risk; 

WHEREAS Protesters have recently occupied livestock facilities with total disregard to the risks and potential damages; 

WHEREAS Individuals found guilty of trespass under current Saskatchewan trespass laws are subject to fines of up to $5,000; 

WHEREAS Section 177 of the Canada Criminal Code only sets out a summary conviction offense regarding trespass near dwellings at night; 

BE IT RESOLVED That the Government of Canada expand the definition of criminal trespass to include trespass on livestock facilities.
