Resolution Title: Grain Moisture Shrinkage
Year: 2023
Resolution #: C&T 9-23
Resolution:

WHEREAS primary grain elevators are required to follow the Canadian Grain Commission calculation when deducting weight percentage of grain that is dried using artificial dryers;

WHEREAS producers may be subject to this moisture shrinkage in instances when the grain is blended with drier grain purchased at lighter weight;

BE IT RESOLVED the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) stipulate that no grain deliveries should be subject to moisture shrinkage unless artificial drying occurs; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that producers be provided proof that drying occurred or the CGC conduct regular auditing of its licensees to ensure this practice of charging shrinkage for paper blended grain does not continue.
